Company is derived from the word “companion”, and this determines the social and community responsibilities that Stephens & George uphold.
The majority of our employees live in the community of the South Wales Valleys where the factory is based, and therefore we have a social responsibility to both the community, externally and internally.
We have a policy of recruiting, training and developing local people, which should instil in them a sense of community in their workplace.
We therefore endeavour to sponsor and support local schools, and charities. We have a Company sports and social club, which we try to hold events within the local community.
As one of the largest local employer’s we endeavour to promote lifestyle changes, with various schemes that we have to offer e.g. “Cycle to Work Scheme” and self defence Classes, amongst others.
We have a policy to offer people disable under the act ‘back to work’ placements through the Shaw Trust.
