Charitable Trust

To mark 100 years of British printing in Merthyr Tydfil and the South Wales Valleys, Stephens and George Print Group have founded The Stephens and George Centenary Charitable Trust.

The Trust is run by: Helen Hughes, Charity Co-ordinator

The Trust aims to: Raise literacy standards

The Trust initiates this through its robust strategic plan which incorporates:

  • Creative libraries
  • Book donation scheme
  • Reading support volunteers
  • Baby bookworm project for pre-school children
  • Two bookshops that are community driven and run literacy events and classes
  • Internship programme in the field of paper and publishing
  • Bursary award scheme for gifted young people
  • Newsletter project “Youth News”. A magazine produced by young people for young people
  • Annual Children’s literacy festival “Spread the Word”
  • Chess in schools initiative
